There are 37 casinos in BC if you count every casino, community gaming centre and the bingo hall, spread across 33 communities. Overview

Casinos in BC at a Glance

Short answer

BCLC runs gambling at 37 venues: 26 casinos, 10 community gaming centres and one bingo hall, with about 13,000 slot machines and 491 table games between them.

Every casino in British Columbia is part of BCLC's network. BCLC conducts and manages the gambling for the Province, and private service providers own and run the venues: Gateway Casinos operates 15 BC properties, Great Canadian has run several of the large ones, and First Nations now own a growing share. BCLC's service plan counts 26 of the venues as casinos and 10 as community gaming centres: smaller rooms with slots and often bingo, many of them under the Chances name. The brand alone does not settle the type, though: the tables below list 16 Chances venues against BCLC's 10 community gaming centres, and BCLC publishes no venue-by-venue split, so the tables do not label which is which. The casinos add table games, and the largest add hotels and theatres.

The map is uneven. Fifteen venues sit in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, six on Vancouver Island, seven in the Okanagan and Thompson, two in the Kootenays and seven across the North and Cariboo. Our counts follow BCLC's venue list as read on 20 October 2026.

Picks

Best Casino in BC for What You Want

Short answer

For a resort stay, River Rock or Parq. For poker, Parq. For a smaller night out, the Cascades and Chances venues across the Interior.

There is no single best casino in BC, because the venues are built for different evenings. These are the strongest picks by purpose, using what each venue publishes:

  • Resort stay: River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, which BCLC's venue site calls "Western Canada's only four-diamond casino resort", has a hotel and the River Rock Show Theatre. Parq Casino Vancouver, downtown, is joined to the JW Marriott Parq and The Douglas hotels.
  • Poker: Parq calls its poker room "BC's biggest". Grand Villa in Burnaby and Playtime Casino Kelowna also run poker rooms.
  • Slots: River Rock lists over 1,100 slots, the highest count we could confirm. Elements Casino Victoria lists over 750.
  • Outside the cities: Casino of the Rockies near Cranbrook sits at the St. Eugene resort, and Treasure Cove in Prince George has a full-service hotel.

Which Are the Biggest Casinos in BC?

Short answer

No official ranking exists. River Rock publishes the most slots we could confirm; Parq claims the biggest poker room.

The question of the biggest casino in Vancouver or in BC has no official answer: neither BCLC nor the venues publish comparable floor sizes. Directory sites repeat figures for floor area and machine counts that disagree with each other, and we leave those out. What the venues themselves publish is this: River Rock in Richmond lists "over 1,100 slots" and 108 electronic table game terminals, and describes its slot floor as "one of the largest and most diverse collections of slot machines on the West Coast". Parq Casino Vancouver calls its poker room "BC's biggest". On the island, Elements Casino Victoria lists over 750 slots, and Casino Nanaimo 400.

So for the biggest casino in Metro Vancouver by published slot count, River Rock leads; for poker, Parq makes the claim. Across the province, BCLC counts about 13,000 slot machines and 491 table games in total.

Visiting a BC Casino: ID, Age and Large Wins

Short answer

Bring original photo ID; you must be 19 or older. Wins and cash of C$10,000 or more are reported under federal rules.

BCLC's venue site says that "all visitors will be required to present ID to security staff", and it accepts originals only: a driver's licence, a BC Services Card, a passport and similar documents. The minimum age is 19 for every venue and every game. Each casino also has a GameSense advisor, BCLC's player-health staff, who can explain how games work and help with limits or Game Break self-exclusion.

Large amounts bring paperwork. Under federal FINTRAC rules, casinos report cash received of C$10,000 or more, and payouts of C$10,000 or more, including several smaller amounts that add up to that within 24 hours. That is a reporting rule, not a tax: the Canada Revenue Agency does not treat casual gambling as a business, so a recreational player's casino win is not taxed.

Some are. Parq, River Rock, Grand Villa and Starlight list themselves as open 24/7, although table games can keep shorter hours; River Rock's tables, for example, close from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday to Thursday. Smaller venues and community gaming centres keep shorter hours, so check the venue before you go.

Casinos keep records of large transactions because federal law requires it. Under FINTRAC rules, casinos report cash they receive of C$10,000 or more, and payouts of C$10,000 or more, including amounts that add up to that within 24 hours. For recreational players, winnings themselves are not taxed in Canada.

Who owns the casinos in BC?

The gambling is conducted and managed by BCLC for the Province. The buildings and day-to-day operations belong to private service providers such as Gateway Casinos and Great Canadian, and increasingly to First Nations: eight casinos in southwest BC were sold to First Nations in two years, according to CBC.

What is the biggest casino in Vancouver?

There is no official ranking by floor size. River Rock in Richmond publishes the highest slot count we could confirm, over 1,100 machines, and Parq downtown calls its poker room BC's biggest.
